Welcombe Hills School MoveForward Project - Week 3
We took the short journey to Mary Arden’s Farm with the group from Welcombe Hills school and ThinkForward for an afternoon of apple picking in the orchards with The Shakespeare Birthplace Trust. We were also joined by some of our charity volunteers who have been picking apples in the local community since September as part of our Harvest Share project.
After a brief tour seeing the animals and after taking in the Shakespearian history of the venue, the group were armed with apple picking tools and buckets ready to harvest as much of the delicious fruit as they could.
Overall, in an hour they managed to harvest a whopping 20 buckets which equates to a total of around 100kg of apples. The apples will now go off to Pershore college where they will be pressed, juiced and bottled up ready to be sold in Shakespeare Birthplace Trust shops to raise money for their charity.
The final half an hour of the session ended with the group creating apple bird feeders to take home and put in their gardens. Another fun and productive day was had by all and we look forward to next week in our hospital gardens at Stratford-Upon-Avon hospital.
