Community Apple Pressing: Tasty, Local and Zero Waste

We had a brilliant time at Stratford-upon-Avon Hospital last week, pressing apples and sharing fresh juice with staff and visitors. The apples came from our Harvest Share project, collected from gardens and orchards around the area to stop good fruit going to waste.

With the press set up outside, people stopped by to watch, chat, and taste the juice. It was simple, hands-on, and surprisingly satisfying seeing all those surplus apples turned into something delicious. We bottled up plenty for folks to take home, and hospital staff were keen to grab a few too!

All the leftover apple pomace (the pulp, skins, and bits after pressing) went straight into our compost bins, adding a great source of “greens” to help create rich, nutritious compost for future growing projects.

It was a great way to bring people together, make use of what we’ve got, and celebrate the season. Big thanks to everyone who helped to pick the apples or helped out with the juicing.
