Apple Picking for Our Harvest Share Project

This autumn, we’ve been out in local orchards picking apples that would otherwise go to waste and giving them to care homes, food banks, and people in need. It’s all part of our Harvest Share project, and it’s been a brilliant way to turn surplus fruit into something meaningful.

Why It Matters

Every year, tons of apples go uneaten but we’re making sure they don’t. By collecting and sharing surplus fruit, we’re cutting down on waste and putting good food to good use. Fresh fruit might seem like a small gift, but it can make a big difference and best of all, everything stays local. From orchard to doorstep, it’s all about supporting our community.

Who Benefits

Care homes receive apples they can bake with, juice, or simply share around. Food banks and shelters get healthy snacks and ingredients to offer those who need them most and volunteers enjoy fresh air, gentle exercise, and a great reason to spend time outdoors doing something meaningful. Any apples that were too bruised or rotten to share were passed on to local animal sanctuaries, where they made a welcome treat for pigs and other fruit-loving residents.

Our efforts

So far, we’ve collected over 720 kilograms of apples - an incredible amount of surplus fruit saved from going to waste and shared with the community.

A massive thank you to everyone who picked apples with us this autumn and helped deliver them to care homes, food banks, and local groups. Your time, energy, and muddy boots made a real difference.
