Cadent Volunteering Day at Heathcote Garden

Cadent once again offered their support and people power to help us as part of their volunteering scheme. Eleven volunteers joined us at Royal Leamington Spa Rehabilitation Hospital to help continue the creation of Heathcote Garden and it was a very productive day with many tasks completed.

The day began with the group painting the arbour benches in a calming shade of Urban Slate as well as painting the metal furniture white and the garden fences in a beautiful Forest Green.

We then moved onto the gardening jobs by digging out flower beds and borders to suit the design before adding fruit trees, herbs and other plants. We then finished it off with decorative bark chippings to add character to the space and provide the perfect mulch for what we planted.

The digging didn’t stop there as volunteers also dug and flattened an area ready for our arbour benches and alpine beds to live.

The final jobs of the day were to install a raised bed planter which was situated in a soon-to-be seated meeting area and living wall planters to add more colour to other areas of the garden.

We give thanks to the Cadent volunteers for helping us make great progress towards creating a green space for NHS staff to meet, relax and take a break. We look forward to finishing the garden in the coming weeks so stay tuned!

“We really admire the work Forest of Hearts are doing in creating beautiful gardens at hospitals for staff, so it was a pleasure to be a small part of that today and for us to all volunteer our time to such a good cause”
