Another year, another brood of Barn Owl chicks!

Following the success of last year with the Barn Own box at our Field of Life, members of the British Trust for Ornithology (BTO) visited again for a routine inspection and we were delighted to discover 3 healthy, well fed Barn Owl chicks inhabiting the box.

After identifying the sex, it was confirmed that the brood consisted of 2 females and 1 male aged between 30-35 days. The chicks were then ringed to individually identify each bird which will provide many opportunities for resighting/recapture.

We are thrilled to provide a habitat for these majestic creatures as we aim to increase biodiversity at our five-acre green space. This new brood were a very welcome addition to the 6 Barn Owl chicks who took up residence in 2021 after the box was erected in a mature Oak tree in May of that year.

We again give thanks to Roger, John and Ros from BTO for their time and expertise and Arden Farm Wildlife Network and Zoe Bell for helping provide the funding to make this project a success.
