Why plant trees with the Forest of Hearts?

Why are trees important?

At Forest of Hearts tree planting is an important component in achieving our mission to create a greener, healthier and more sustainable future. Tree planting is just one of the steps we are taking to tackle the current climate crisis and being in a nature and biodiversity crisis too, our aim is to boost biodiversity with trees as we desperately need them to allow nature to prosper.

When you plant a tree with Forest of Hearts, you’re helping people, places, nature and the planet thrive.

COMBAT CLIMATE CHANGE

By planting trees, we are addressing the current climate change emergency. As trees grow, they help stop climate change by removing carbon dioxide from the air, storing carbon in the trees and soil, and releasing oxygen into the atmosphere. The more trees we plant the more we can help create positive change.

BOOST BIODIVERSITY

The areas we plant trees will benefit greatly as it will increase the biodiversity of the landscape by providing habitats for a variety of different species. Many species of wildlife depend on trees for habitat and trees provide food, protection, and homes for many birds, insects and mammals.

IMPROVE HEALTH & WELLBEING

Our Green Therapy group and volunteers maintain our local tree planting sites as part of their environmental and horticultural learning. Our Green Therapy group are local individuals who are inactive or long term unemployed, experiencing social isolation and/or mental health issues. Trees and nature help provide an increased sense of calm and a reduction in depression, anxiety and stress-related symptoms.

PREVENT FLOODING

Trees can prevent flooding as their roots soak up water and a typical medium-sized tree can intercept over 2,000 gallons of rainfall per year.

Without trees, rain runs off soil into rivers and streams where it raises the water level. A tree’s leaves also play an important role as raindrops that land on leaves evaporate straight into the air, meaning that less water reaches the ground and this slows the rate that water flows into rivers.

PLANT TREES PLANT HOPE

Through our Plant Trees Plant Hope campaign you could help us plant 2,022 trees in 2022. Whether you’re a corporate company who would like to engage your staff in a team building tree planting day or sponsor our project, a volunteer who would like to give back to the community or you’d like to make a donation to have trees planted in your honour, we would love your help.
