Tree Planting with National Grid
We were joined by volunteers from National Grid for a productive day of tree planting as part of the company’s volunteering initiative, which encourages staff to support community projects and environmental improvement.
The team planted 192 Hawthorn trees to create new hedgerow and continue our wildlife corridor. Hawthorn is especially important because it offers dense shelter, early blossom for pollinators, and autumn berries that feed birds and small mammals. It also strengthens the corridor by linking habitats and helping wildlife move safely through the landscape.
After adding stakes and spirals to the trees, the team collected garden waste from the site and manually shredded it into our newly created compost bay to start the composting process, adding essential brown materials to help it break down efficiently.
A pizza lunch was enjoyed, cooked on site, and it gave everyone a chance to talk about the impact they’d had on the space and catch up together.
We want to thank the National Grid volunteers for being part of our tree‑planting project and for the great work they put into planting and completing all the additional tasks across the area. Their efforts will have a lasting impact on the space and will support our community projects in its maintenance and the biodiversity of the site for years to come.
