Shakespeare's Birthday Celebrations at The Dell
A massive thank you to everybody who came along to The Dell, Stratford-upon-Avon on Saturday 23rd April to celebrate Shakespeare’s birthday with our charity team, The Royal Shakespeare Company and artist Faye Claridge.
The day was a great success with visitors in their hundreds making their way along the banks of the River Avon to view the beginnings of The (new) Dell Forest Garden.
We ran drop-in activities throughout the day where people could plant veg seeds to take home and grow, create a bug hotel to provide a habitat for insects and go on a wildlife tour to help charter the biodiversity of the area.
These activities provided fun, practical tasks, as well as being educational and were enjoyed by all ages. Our volunteers were also on hand to talk about the project and how people can take part in future projects with us within the local community. Contact us to get involved
The ‘Room for the Soul’ art instillation was a big hit which saw areas of The Dell transformed into a magical outdoor lounge where plants and flowers overwhelmed furniture. These ephemeral art pieces included portraits of our Green Therapy group who helped design the furniture fabrics during workshops with artist Faye Claridge over the past month. They also helped grow the plants used as part of their horticultural therapy sessions we run twice a week at Stratford-Upon-Avon hospital.
The mood was set perfectly with folk music performed by our very own Luca Falcomer-Dawson. The talented local singer did 3 sets on the live stage in between poetry readings related to Shakespeare, the environment and memories of The Dell.
The celebration was part of a wider project where we are creating a Forest Garden at The Dell and a green space to be enjoyed to improve wellbeing, bring local community groups together and boost biodiversity.
We will now concentrate on working at The Dell to help it continue to grow and develop and become a space that fulfils its aims. Find out more about the project
