Go Green – A Team Challenge to Make a Difference
Corporate teams from adi Group, BAM Construct UK, Conference Care and Valpak Ltd joined us at Stratford Sports Club for our ‘Green Team Challenge’ to create lovely living walls which will be transported and located at Stratford-Upon-Avon hospital.
The teams gave their time as part of their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and the hours they put in not only helps support our non-profit charity but gives back to the local community, boosts biodiversity, addresses the currently climate change emergency and helps improve wellbeing.
The teams were welcomed with tea and coffee where they engaged in an ice breaker and were given an opportunity to network before going into the first task to create plant pots out of recycled newspaper. They’d then use these hand-made plant pots to add peat-free compost and propagate plants for future living walls which will be grown at our garden nursery area.
The main task of the day saw the teams construct the self-watering, eco-friendly, stackable vertical planters before planting them up with a variety of plants including Sedum, Hedera Helix, Carex Evergold, Pansies, Viola, mixed herbs and Alpines.
The importance of these species rich plants is that they will improve air purification of an area by absorbing Nitrogen Dioxide and Particulate Matter to reduce the harmful effects of traffic pollution in the atmosphere.
Their morning work was rewarded with a BBQ lunch and a wonder around the beautiful nearby areas of Stratford-upon-Avon with a checklist to see tourist attractions like the big wheel, the swans and boats on the river and the Shakespearean history.
Fun Fete games and competitive team challenges were on the agenda after lunch to unwind and the corporate teams finally departed with a sense of ‘doing good’ by contributing to create a greener space in an urban area which will look beautiful and benefit local NHS staff.
With this event, we are now on track with one of our social impact targets to design and install 100 linear metres of living walls across Warwickshire.
Thank you to everybody who attended and for making a real difference to making the future greener and more sustainable.
Thank you also to Travis Perkins for donating gloves to provide PPE for participants and Morrisons Stratford-Upon-Avon Community Champion for donating plants to go into the living walls.
It’s through kindness and generosity that makes our projects and events such a big success.
