Creating Bug and Bee Hotels with Stratford Town Trust
This February half term, we had the pleasure of collaborating with Stratford Town Trust to host an engaging and eco-friendly workshop for local families at their Community Hub in Venture House. With a focus on sustainability and biodiversity, 15 families joined us to create bug and bee hotels, transforming waste materials and natural resources into cozy habitats for our garden's tiny inhabitants.
The workshop was a fantastic opportunity for families to bond, learn, and contribute to environmental conservation. Equipped with enthusiasm and creativity, participants repurposed items like old wooden filing boxes, bamboo canes, and garden pots. Natural materials such as pinecones, logs, teasel, twigs, and leaves were also used to create inviting spaces for bugs and bees to thrive.
By building these bug and bee hotels, families not only provided much-needed shelter for pollinators and other beneficial insects, but also helped boost the biodiversity in their gardens. This hands-on activity sparked curiosity and appreciation for the often-overlooked creatures that play a crucial role in our ecosystem.
The event was a resounding success, filled with laughter, learning, and a sense of community spirit. We are grateful to Stratford Town Trust for their support and to all the families who participated in making this workshop an impactful experience.
