Harvest share project 2020
With September being the best month of the year to pick apples, our ‘Harvest Share Project’ is well under way.
Today saw another great day picking and delivering apples and plums with stops at Canning Court Bupa Care Home, Stratford-Upon-Avon Hospital and Farm Animal Rescue Sanctuary.
The initiative gets volunteers together in the great outdoors to have fun and pick a variety of fruits from gardens and orchards, before distributing them to places around the local community.
This helps save unwanted fruit from going to waste and any surplus or damaged fruit can be donated to local animal sanctuaries.
As well as local care homes, hospitals and animal sanctuaries benefiting from the project, the volunteers also enjoy the benefits.
In addition to promoting general wellness, apple picking has specific benefits for brain health and psychological well-being, as well as physically being great exercise.
